Nice = 10 points

I’d been looking at a map of Space Invader mosaics in Nice a few days ago, but didn’t think I’d get to see any, but just as me and Neil sat down to lunch at Saleya market in the old city area, I spotted this one just off to my right, it was a pretty crazy coincidence, because we’d already walked past the building and I hadn’t noticed it.

I forgot to take my camera to Nice - I’d charged the batteries, taken it down to the kitchen before we set off, but crucially forgotten to pick it up when I was grabbing the GPS, FM transmitter, and packed breakfast for the lads - which I was really kicking myself about when we climbed up to the top of the hill that separates the Promenade des Anglais from the small port area.

…which explains why the showers were so big

On the drive down, me and Neil stayed in a hotel (who had no knowledge of our booking via Expedia, but they didn’t make a fuss and just gave us a room) which the England rugby team had stayed in during the last rugby world cup. The South African and Georgian teams had stayed there too, as well as a few French football teams, probably because the hotel was close to Lens.

A knitted birthday card, and an ass-kicking keychain

Clare knitted a little t-shirt for my birthday card, how cool is that? Also, Liz got me (amongst other fun things) a Bruce Lee keychain. The picture came out fuzzy because apparently my iPhone is more interested in Hannah’s legs than a plastic martial arts hero.

My drive through France, in pictures

After stopping for the night outside the town of Arras in Northern France, I made a quick trip to the Canadian Memorial to soldiers who died in World War I, which was a short journey away near a village called Vimy. It was pretty incredible, there’s no real scale to the shot, but I’d predict it was about four storeys tall. I didn’t get very close to it because it was raining and my coat was packed at the bottom of my suitcase. In the grounds of the memorial area and park much of the ground was left pitted and uneven, the state it was in from shelling in the war, which was pretty amazing to see. When the Nazis occupied this part of France in WWII Hitler himself visited the memorial and liked it so much that he felt the need to have troops stationed around it at all times to ensure it was not defaced.

On the second night we stopped in a town called Macon, and after eating some Thai food (I know, I know) checked out this beautiful bridge, which had the added fun of people on scooters exchanging small packages underneath it at 10:30pm whilst I was taking pictures in their general direction, which is in no way dodgy or weird.

The area next to the river at Macon was pretty cool, there had clearly been a lot of development there recently, which included a couple of solid stone arm chairs. In a rare moment I managed to persuade Neil to sit on one and let me take a picture of him.

I have a load more pictures from the way down, but they’re on my iPhone and I haven’t uploaded those pics yet, and most of them suck, but I was driving for quite a long time each day, so hopefulyy you’ll forgive me for not snapping many pics.

Guess who’s blogging, 24, and back in France?

Me!

Birthday last week, people came for dinner, it was great.

I’m going to try and start blogging things again, not for you, for me, because I used to enjoy it.

I’m in St. Tropez again for another 1-month stint (with a possible trip back the the UK to pick up some stone worktops).
