Homer and Plopper, originally uploaded by riacale.

Even though I saw it at the cinema, I rented The Simpsons Movie from Lovefilm, and it was still hilarious, but just as I was slipping the disc back into its protective sleeve I noticed something odd on the sleeve notes. They described the film thusly:

“When Homer accidentally (1) pollutes the river (2) with toxic waste (3) from the nuclear power plant (4), he gets fired from his job (5), and everyone has to evacuate Springfield (6), possibly forever (7).”

1) Homer knew he was meant to take the silo to the treatment plant, so it was no accident, even if he was unaware what the consequences of his actions would be.

2) It was a lake, not a river.

3) It wasn’t toxic waste, it was pig poop.

4) It wasn’t from the nuclear power plant, it was from Plopper (pictured).

5) We never see Homer getting fired from his job in the film, its probably safe to assume so, but its never mentioned.

6) No one evacuates Springfield, they can’t leave because there is a seemingly indestructible dome covering Springfield.

7) I guess point 6 already covers this, but obviously if they can’t leave at all they can’t leave forever.

I know I’m being astoundingly pedantic here, and it doesn’t matter one jot how they describe the film on the sleeve since you don’t rent something off the internet only to judge it based upon the description on the sleeve when it arrives in the mail a couple of days later, but still, I thought it was amazing just how far off-base they were with that description… maybe they know something about a sequel that I don’t?
