LoveFilm? Love Inaccuracy!

Homer and Plopper, originally uploaded by riacale.

Even though I saw it at the cinema, I rented The Simpsons Movie from Lovefilm, and it was still hilarious, but just as I was slipping the disc back into its protective sleeve I noticed something odd on the sleeve notes. They described the film thusly:

“When Homer accidentally (1) pollutes the river (2) with toxic waste (3) from the nuclear power plant (4), he gets fired from his job (5), and everyone has to evacuate Springfield (6), possibly forever (7).”

1) Homer knew he was meant to take the silo to the treatment plant, so it was no accident, even if he was unaware what the consequences of his actions would be.

2) It was a lake, not a river.

3) It wasn’t toxic waste, it was pig poop.

4) It wasn’t from the nuclear power plant, it was from Plopper (pictured).

5) We never see Homer getting fired from his job in the film, its probably safe to assume so, but its never mentioned.

6) No one evacuates Springfield, they can’t leave because there is a seemingly indestructible dome covering Springfield.

7) I guess point 6 already covers this, but obviously if they can’t leave at all they can’t leave forever.

I know I’m being astoundingly pedantic here, and it doesn’t matter one jot how they describe the film on the sleeve since you don’t rent something off the internet only to judge it based upon the description on the sleeve when it arrives in the mail a couple of days later, but still, I thought it was amazing just how far off-base they were with that description… maybe they know something about a sequel that I don’t?

Brake lights in a powercut, originally uploaded by u07ch.

I got a text from Paz about an hour ago that said something along these lines:

“There’s a powercut at the mo and the only source of light in my house is coming from my New Years costume.”

Brilliant!

Is twitter work?

Wearing My Twitter Shirt., originally uploaded by *nathan.

I’ve noticed that most of the people that I follow on Twitter don’t do much updating on a weekend, which almost makes the service seem more like a part of their job than a fun little tool to update people with your status.

Leyla, graffiti on Brick Lane

Okay, not actually on Brick Lane, but near it.

When I was wandering towards the Concrete Hermit gallery a couple of months ago (I’m just writing up my HYA posts about the gallery, which is why I was reminded to look at this picture) I walked past a lot of bad graffiti, and I walked past a lot of good graffiti too. I really like the way that the gold paint on this shines, there’s something really cool about vibrant colours like this, I know that a lot of people complain about graffiti, but when it looks like this surely its better than some crumbling bricks in a part of London that has been neglected for far too long?

The best duck pancakes I’ve ever had. Ever.

I realised that I hadn’t uploaded the pics I took on my phone (I didn’t always have my big camera with me when I went out at night and when I was shopping) when I was in Hong Kong, so I did the logical thing and uploaded them.

This is a picture of the duck and pancakes I had in what is generally accepted to be HKs best Shanghaiese restaurant (though I forget the name). I basically got a whole deboned duck that had been roasted then fried in a very delicate and very thin batter. The pancakes that it came with were huge as well, I’d say they might have been double the diameter of the pancakes that you’d get in a UK chinese takeaway. It was so good that I did actually manage to eat the whole lot, although in my defence I had a light lunch because I knew what I was going to be ordering that night.

I also managed to drink a couple of pots of tea in the 20 minutes that I waited for the duck to be ready (good thing I hadn’t ordered a starter!).

The Thames/The Eye at night

I can’t remember if I ever posted any of these pics before, I took them on the same day as I was at the Margin tradeshow, and before dinner that night I went for a wander around London’s tourist destinations its amazing how few people there are at Buckingham Palace at 10pm (none, in fact).

Anyway, colourful picture, I thought it was pretty nice, although I don’t really like the glare coming off the wheel.

My dodgy ankles

Posted by Bone at April 17th, 2008

Ankle Support, originally uploaded by Wes Barnes.

In my usual attempt to find a picture for a blog post I turned to Flickr, and it turns out that when you do a search for ‘ankle’, a fairly safe term I would have thought, you get rather a lot of porn and foot fetish stuff. Seriously are there any terms left that I can safely search with?

Anyway, yesterday my ankle just started to randomly hurt, then stop hurting, then start hurting again. I can’t explain it since I’ve done nothing too strenuous recently, but it’s really annoying because the sun is shining through the window and I’m worried about going for a walk in case I get halfway and then my ankle starts hurting again and I’ll have a very awkward, slow, and painful stumble back home.

[hey, when did I start blogging stuff like this again? I'm back baby!]
