I bought Superbad on VCD today for about £3. You’re probably thinking that I’m going to have a few questions to answer if customs look through my bags on the flight back, but I’m pretty sure that its actually a legal copy, its just that VCDs are really cheap here. My theory is that since the authorities and movie companies know that pirating is still pretty rampant in HK (even more so on the mainland), they might as well release movies cheaply in the lower-quality VCD format and charge small amounts for them instead of earning nothing at all from those releases.
