I broke the headphone jack on my laptop, which for some reason now means that the speakers won’t work either, so my laptop is now draped in a blanket of silence.
And when I say broken, I don’t mean, “oh, the sounds gone off, I wonder how that happened,” I mean, “damn, how come when I got up to get a drink I put my laptop down and as I was turning I accidentally kicked my the jack, pushing the input into the innards of of the computer?”
So I’m now soundless, which may well mean that I need to take the laptop apart and swap the working microphone jack for the headphone jack since apparently they’re both the same… fun.

Despite having experienced it, I’m still shocked at just how large Tokyo is.

1200 miles in 3 days, not too bad, and I am really, really tired now.
In retrospect, I think that on the first day I should have done a bit more and got to Troyes so that I wouldn’t have needed to do 500 miles on the second day. And perhaps gone up to Oxford on the second day, since driving into London took up a lot of time when it was dark and I was getting tired.
Also, booking the second hotel for the right night would have been a good idea (d’oh, £110 wasted!).

[Pic not taken by me]
I’m in Dijon, this place doesn’t smell of mustard as expected (but there are loads of pharmacies!). The miles flew past today and we ended up at the hotel before 5. Went into the city for dinner and it was totally dead, which was good in a way because parking the van would have been a hag to park the van if things were busier.
Tomorrow, on to the ferry at Calais (350ish miles away), then to a hotel near Wembley. I might be knackered, but would any uni people from London fancy drinks or something tomorrow night?

… because I’m going to be following white lines (non-powdered) for about 1200 miles over the next three days.
We’ve finished up with the job and spent all day cleaning the house. The weather has been pretty nasty over the past couple of days, leading many people to believe that the ‘Mistral’ is blowing. Just so we’re clear, the Mistral isn’t magic… its the wind. Just air moving quickly.
Tomorrow I’m going to be stopping near Dijon (maybe pick up some mustard made with Canadian mustard seeds, or Cassis) for the night, before heading across the channel and stopping for the night in London before the final 300ish miles home.
Part of me hates the drive, and part of me loves it, presumably I’d enjoy it more if I were driving something a bit more desirable than a big Iveco van stuffed with all sorts (two satellite dishes, a 50 inch TV, many litres of wine, all the tools we’ve used, and most surprisingly of all, a racing bicycle). Man, I really hope that customs don’t stop me, even I don’t know how to justify all that stuff, despite doing nothing wrong.

I’ve been on the early shift for the past couple of days because my parents went away for their wedding anniversary (to a 1000 year old castle in the Alpes Maritimes!) which kinda sucked because I had to get up at 7 to let the lads in the house and do the 1st breakfast drinks, but it did mean I got to enjoy the really deep red of the sunrise over the bay, even if it was hella cold and had to walk across the passarelle onto the boat whilst carrying my tripod and camera, which could have been costly.
It wasn’t actually as red today as yesterday, but still a great sight.
Also, got a migraine today, which sucked, burned my arm on a towel rail, which sucked, went to St. Tropez market, which sucked, and I’ve been bitten by another mosquito, which literally sucked.
