Get rockin’ at the Bobbin!

Posted by Bone at July 31st, 2007

Since BGBC is Rob’s homepage I thought it was only polite to give a mention to the guys gig that is coming up in just a couple of weeks. I wanna help them get a big crowd to the Bobbin in Lancaster on August 16th, so mark your calendars!

As someone who has been at more band practices than some of the band members, I’m telling you that its gonna be great, they sounded awesome tonight, and that without a full band, so imagine what it’ll be like with Tommy Horror!

Yes, I’ll be reiterating this message for the next fortnight!

HYA is sexy!

Posted by Bone at July 31st, 2007

Go check out hideyourarms.com right now!

I’ve totally redesigned the site using the Blogging Pro theme and a little bit of coloring on my part. The colour palette isn’t completely finished, as I’m not so sure about the orange titles, but I think it looks pretty good, and rather conveniently it is designed with a new advertising network in mind.

Amsterdam Bibliotheek

I know this is a really random thing to post about, especially as I haven’t mentioned all the much stuff about Amsterdam yet, but I was really impressed by the giant library that we went into on Sunday afternoon whilst we were walking around the area between the Centraal Station and the NEMO science museum.

PICT5700

It just had a great feeling about the place, very light and airy, and unlike most libraries, I’d probably look forward to going there if I was a student. The picture above shows the central area where you took escalators to the various floors.

PICT5699

This pic shows the way that they signed out what was on each floor, simple, but still cool.

PICT5702

The main reason why we came into the library in the first place was because we hoped we could get nice and high to get a view out over the city, there was one more floor open to the public above where this photo was taken, but that was a cafe, so we didn’t go in.

PICT5708

There was also a cool theatre circular glass-walled theatre on the top floor that had this fantastic chandelier in it.

PICT5710

There was also these weird chairs on a few of the floors, they were a squishy foam and as you would imagine, rocked about quite a lot.

PICT5712

The above two pictures were taken on the CD and DVD floor, the lower picture shows the inside of the cylindrical CD storage area that you can see in the right of the upper photo. I guess you were meant to listen to CDs in the seating area (the lighting changed colour in there), although we were rather more inclined to take a nap.

PICT5701

Naturally, there were also lots of books in the library, housed in these rather Space Odyssey-esque white book shelves. They were lit up by alternating blue and orange LEDs, perhaps those colours are least likely to damage the books? Or perhaps they just thought it looked cool.

PICT5719

They also had loads of computers in there, with free internet, so I thought I’d do a bit of guerilla marketing when I was finished checking my mail I left it on HYA.

Don’t worry, I post pictures of clubs too!

Llloyd!!!

I love that I have the same tee as a character from TV, even if pretty much no one in the UK will know who he is.

An extremely random celebrity spotting

Posted by Bone at July 25th, 2007

Debbie Harry from Blondie, whilst I was looking out the window on a tram in Amsterdam on Sunday. She was wearing a black suit that matched the person she was stood with. Funnily enough, the first thing I noticed was that the man with her was using a film camera, these music types certainly are a strange bunch!

All badges are pretty dumb

Posted by Bone at July 25th, 2007

PICT5752

I don’t know what it is, but Tyson seemed to have a magical ability for making the Seibei badges that David gave me with my hoodie pop off my backpack whilst we were on holiday. One of them popped off whilst we were in a bar having lunch, and we noticed it so I didn’t lose that one, but it took me until yesterday to notice that I’d lost the badge that’s in the above picture. Yeah, I’m a little saddened that there’s now a gap in the line of badges on my backpack, but I would imagine that the badge actually fell off when it was in the overhead luggage on the flight back, so I really get my chuckle on when I imagine the cabin crew cleaning the overhead locker and finding a round piece of metal that says “all fish are pretty dumb.”

Actually, I might buy some more just to leave in random places!

I’m back, and I’m tired

Posted by Bone at July 23rd, 2007

Man, that was a full on 5 days!

I spent too much, walked too much, drank too much, ate too much, and slept far, far too little.

It was amazing.

Photos and stories to come.

No spoilers here…

Posted by Claire at July 21st, 2007

I’ve just spent 8 hours reading the new Harry Potter book. I’m tired.

I’ve also got a new house! So after living in this one for a grand total of about 2 months we’re on the move to Clifton Moor, which is way too far away from Uni than I’d like, but the exercise will do me good!

Gone to Amsterdam, back soon

Posted by Bone at July 18th, 2007

Right, this is my last post before heading off to Amsterdam, because I’m already up way too late, and if I go online tomorrow it will only be to check my mail.

See ya!

Howdy Claire!

Posted by Claire at July 17th, 2007

What is going on with the weather this summer?! York’s suffering from it’s 2nd thunderstorm of the day and it’s only 4.30pm… so I’ve had to un-plug the TV aerial, missing amazing programmes such as Sally Jane Raphael and Ricki Lake, part of the unemployed persons’ daily routine.

That’s right, I’m unemployed. And have been for 2 months now. Yeah, it’s not settling so well on the pocket or the mind. But I had to leave Strada. That place was bringing me down so much & I’d only been working there a few months. I’m not 100% sure where any of my makings have gone either cos I have never been so poor in my life… and I was a student for 3 years! All my coursemates graduated the other day, which was heartbreaking for me to not be on that stage with them, though I was beaming with pride the entire time and full of excitement that this time next year, that would be me. I’m so looking forward to going back to Uni now… with having no job I’m not only very broke but also very BORED! Days are spent lazing around on the sofa watching aforementioned ‘quality’ viewing…

But yesterday mine & Nick’s landlord decided he would brighten our lives, my days and the summer by announcing he is selling our house under our feet! Joy! So now I have wonderful things to do during the hours of daylight like wander around town in the pouring rain looking for somewhere to rent and have my eyes glued to my laptop all evening trawling the internet for the perfect house. Which isn’t easy.

Oh what am I saying, it’s not all doom and gloom, Nick’s landed a brilliant job at York Hospital as a Patient Access Clerk and I get to go back to Windermere in 2 weeks time for a jolly nice rest at home. Then I have a lovely holiday in Roma to look forward to in September before the final onslaught of my 2nd attempt at 4th year begins…

Let’s examine the evidence:
a) Moaning
b) Whining
c) Misery

= CLAIRE’S BACK!
