Gone to Newcastle, back soon

Posted by Bone at June 28th, 2007

I’m off to Newcastle for a couple of days for my cousin’s wedding, and just like every other time that I go to a city, I don’t expect (or want, really) internet access, so there’ll be no posts until next week.

This is just rid.iculo.us

Posted by Bone at June 27th, 2007

Ok, ridiculous isn’t the right word, but it was the only thing that really fit.

I’ve just realised that my del.icio.us posts aren’t getting auto-posted to BGBC every day, dunno why, but it may be the same reason why I can’t use the ‘blog this!’ feature on Flickr.

A Late One

Posted by Duncan at June 27th, 2007

Its 6:10pm, the working day finishes at 5 for most people.

but not me.

Working life is stealing away my real life.

I need a break, but getting nowhere.

No-one told me being unemployed would be something to look forward to.

Ow-wii

Posted by Bone at June 25th, 2007

I think I played a few too many rounds of wii bowling and now I’ve got a mild case of wii-elbow!

Wiiiiii!

Posted by Bone at June 25th, 2007

Hannah left the Wii here after her, Greeno and the Greggs (shout outs all around!) came round last night, and I’ve spent pretty much the whole day playing on it… its surprising how a hangover (mostly due to tiredness, went to bed at 6) disappears as soon as you want to pretend bowl in your living room.

Also, quality night last night, its cool to have a night in drinking with mates sometimes, clearing out whatever we could find in the cupboards (except for the expensive booze, of course), turning Pictionary into a drinking game (that I sucked at, big time!), watching and trashing Dead or Alive, and sitting out on the spinning gallery at 4:30 being amazed at how light it was.

Good times, good times indeed.

Battered to perfection

Posted by Bone at June 24th, 2007

Last night I made fish & chips from scratch and used Heston Blumenthal’s recipe for batter from his Perfection book. It took 6 ingredients; vodka, beer, honey, rice flour, four and a pinch of salt. It was a bit of a fuss but it did turn out really well, and wasn’t exactly hard to make.

And the results? Fantabulous!

Ubuntu! Ubuntu!

I really took the plunge… I’ve installed Ubuntu Linux!

On my old laptop…

Dual booting with Linux…

But still, I just wanted to test it out and I really like what I see. Although, I don’t really enjoy using my old laptop since it has a dodgy power cable, the keyboard is a bit suspect, the headphone port no longer works, and I really don’t miss having to listen to a laptop fan running ALL the time.

Ubuntu immediately recognised my wifi card, no driver installation needed, the OS looks good and has some nice tweaks to it, considering its free I’m really, really impressed. That said, I did still write this post on my trusty Dell, largely out of fear that typing too much on the Vaio/Ubuntu will cause the power cable to lose its spot.

Geekiest ever post?

This is probably the best way to spend 5 seconds of your day.

Bone and Rob fight an Octopus… and win!

Posted by Bone at June 20th, 2007

Rob had never had sushi before, and I remembered that there was a yo sushi just off Leicester square so we went there for a bite to eat before heading to Euston to get our train back. I really dropped Rob in at the deep end by grabbing this plate off the conveyor belt, it was octopus. It sounds more adventurous than it was in reality, its pretty much just squid. We racked up the plates at a quite alarming rate, not even the boiling hot miso soup could slow us down!

It was a lot of fun, I really like kaiten (conveyor belt) sushi, and whilst I think it was actually more expensive, and not on a par in terms of quality with the priciest sushi place that I went to in Tsukiji it was still really nice to have some proper sushi for the first time in a few months.

Monkey Opera Signage Excites Bone

The train that me and Rob got back to Lancaster on Monday night was the one that had been re-painted by Gorillaz collaborator Jamie Hewlett to promote Monkey: Journey To the West, which is a stage adaptation of a Chinese legend. It looked really cool, just a pity that they didn’t run the style all the way through the train as well.
