Things have been pretty quiet on my front for the past few days, as things are predictably rather less exciting this week than last. I do have a couple of things going on though.
1. LaFraise Job - The people that are going to interview me are busy in Paris this week, so there won’t be any movement on that until next week, which is good because it gives me some time to get more ideas together.
2. Photos - I’ve got some credits expiring soon with Photobox so I’m going through all my old photos finding some to add to my albums. Obv. there’s a load from Tokyo, but I’m getting some stuff in from the past year as well, expect to see me showing you pictures of ASIMO the robot at Scott’s house very soon. (I know that was a nothing point but I wanted to pad out the post…)
3. Green Tea - I’m trying to get into drinking tea. Green Japanese Tea that is. I quite liked it when I was out in Japan so I thought I’d give it a go now that I’m home, especially after I’d heard it was really healthy. So I bought a box of it when I was at Booths and whilst I have followed the instructions exactly it just doesn’t measure up to what we had in Japan. The search will continue, perhaps they were just giving us regualr tea without milk instead of traditional green tea?

I know what you’re thinking, didn’t I just post this video? Well, this is the same song, but there’s a funny moment at about 2 minutes. Obviously I’m not going to put a spoiler in my own post, but I think it’s a pretty cool demonstration of the song creation process.

Y’know, there’s nothing I enjoy more than sitting in a cold room taking videos of my friends playing the same song for 3 hours. I kid, I kid. I like this song, as was pretty clear when I was humming it after we left, much to Robs’ joy.

The Japanese adventure has ended. I was awake for more than 25 hours in the process of getting back to Langdale, and almost fell asleep in the bath when I got home.
Anyway, here’s a list of the stuff that I bought over the past few days:
iPod Shuffle (silver)
Meat Knife in Tsukiji (the guy took about 10 minutes sharpening it - it was like watching an artist)
chunky chopsticks
Graniph t-shirt
White belt
Beanie (with cool army pin)
Night Vision webcam
£2 webcam (utterly terrible piece of hardware, what else could I expect?)
1gb compact flash card
Nike SB trainers (exclusive to Japan, I think)
4 boxes of various food treats (all very nicely wrapped)
Asimo money bank (super cute)
Flip Flap solar-powered plastic plant
As you can imagine, by bag was utterly stuffed full when I was going home, I really couldn’t have bought anything extra since I had to put some stuff in my backpack.

Over the past couple of days I`ve spent a lot of time on the streets of Tokyo shopping for clothes, electronics, and just random stuff I`ve found. In a strange way I found it as culturally rewarding as visitng shrines, museums and other things of a more traditionally touristy nature, possibly because you can easily make comparisons to the experience at home on a more level playing field than comparing a church to a shrine.
Clothes shopping in Tokyo would be amazing if I were thinner, I seriously would have maxed out my credit card, but most shops don`t sell anything above a size large, which I can understand since most people around here are short (by my standards) and thin.
Shoe shopping was a bit of a nightmare too, I must have been in 15-20 shoe shops before I managed to find a pair that I both liked and fit me. They do have some really great shoes though, and they were well priced too, although I`m sure that prices get pretty high in the places where they keep the rare shoes in refrigerators.
The Japanese do seem to have a penchant for hats. I saw quite a few stores that only sold hats, and strangely they mostly carried the same stock. Actually a lot of the cheaper stores seemed to carry a lot of identical stock. Also, in the shop where I bought a hat, neither of the staff were wearing hats, you`d think that their days would be filled with endless montages of trying on various hats… One other thing I`ve noticed about Japanese beanie style hats is that they`re very tall, so that you end up with a silly flap on fabirc at the top, or you have to roll the hat underneath, meaning you lose the design. Perhaps I was just wearing it wrong.
One place where I did have plenty of options for clothes was the many hip hop clothing stores (their description not mine) which people would incariably try and navigate me into. I actually sought one of them out in Shibuya because a few days earlier when Tiggy and I were on a walk about I noticed a very rare hoodie (LRG`s Skeleton hoodie which was popularised by Kanye West then majorly hyped on blogs and forums) in their window and wanted to see if it was worth all the fuss. They`d sold out, naturally, but the guy in the store pushed me towards a number of different hoodies, so I eventually told him that it was number of different hoodies, so I eventually told him that it was my job to write about hoodies (it kinda is..) and he laid off giving me the hard sell. One interesting thing to note about the hip hop One interesting thing to note about the hip hop stores is that their prices are very similar and they all want to give you a special discount of 30-40%, even though I don`t think that any of them were affiliated to each other, you`d think that one would buck the trend and actually label their clothes with the actual price it would be sold at.
Oh, in store music. If it`s the aforementioned hip hop in store music. If it`s the aforementioned hip hop stores it`s Jay-Z, and in the punk/skate stores you can almost guarantee Rage Against the Machine.
I`d write more but its my last night and I wanna go around the Shiodome complex doing some night photography.

Quite a strange dinner tonight. My ankles have been hurting a lot today (the left one is visibly swollen and both are covered in blisters, hurrah for pain!) so I went to the Chinese restaurant that is located in the hotel, mostly for the view, but also because their menu looked really nice.
I don`t know if this is how they regularly serve a set menu in Chinese restaurants on this side of the world, but here`s my run down of the order in which the dishes arrived, and they only came one at a time:
Meat plate - very tasty beef and peppers with an unknown but enkoyable sauce
Dim Sum - again very nice, although not too adventurous as I`d had them all in England before
Sweetcorn soup - delicious
Special Fried Rice - having this on its own without sauce would have sucked if it wasn`t so well prepared
Strawberry Yoghurt Jelly for desert and a cup of tea
Does that seem odd to you? Surely it should have been soup, dim sum, meat plate AND rice, then desert and tea?
Guess it doesn`t matter since it all tasted good.
