I know that some people are gonna hate me for this, but I ate a horse steak this evening. It tasted quite a lot like pork, and was pretty tough to cook and eat (in terms of texture), though that may have been because we just kinda left it frying in the pan for ages whilst doing other stuff to make sure it was cooked all the way through.
I also did a load more driving today, because the lads were coming back from the weekend in Nice, and there was a couple of people to pick up from the airport, which gave me a chance to have some fun with the car, not that I was too silly, and compared to most of the Franch overtaking moves I see every day I’d pretty much have to attempt a Dukes of Hazzard jump to be crazier than them. Oh, and I’ve started honking the horn at guys that cut me up/drive straight towards me on the wrong side of the road, I’m really getting the hang of this Fench driving culture!

… very sexy Bone, very. Anyway, I’ve come to realise being student isn’t always so much, I’ve got so much going round in my head and so much to do with the little time I have in a day. Sleeping and Eating have become second to meeting people and pacing around the house being miserable. It doesn’t help that I have Laryngitis at the moment and seem to spend every other bloody day in a smoky venue. Like with all other treats, due to over-gigging, it’s lost it’s appeal. Saw the Fratellis on Saturday night, it would have been amazing if I wasn’t constantly checking my watch for ‘Paracetamol’ or ‘Chesty Cough Medicine’ time. Hey, people had weed, Debbie and I had Potters throat Lozenges. Which I hand out like sweets to every person I infect along the way… Going to Cambridge tomorrow night to see Sarah and then to London for Razorlight and all I can think about is crawling into my bed and staying there forever. The naughty fort wins every time!

So I drove around the Gorges du Verdon today, and it was arguably more incredible than last time, maybe going rive droite has the better viewpoints?
Anyway, whilst it was utterly breathtaking, it was also pretty freakin’ scary, since many French roads aren’t created with safety in mind (which is surprising when you consider how most of them drive) and it wasn’t uncommon to turn around a corner and have a sheer drop of a few hundred feet by your side, and absolutely no kind of safety barrier to provide protection. As you would imagine, I wasn’t exactly relaxed! But it was totally worth it. Also, how the devil has it been around 28 degrees celsius here, it’s practivally November! I packed a wooly jumper!
BTW, how sexy fo I look with my face all scrunched up in the pic (cos of the sun).

Got the weekend off whilst the rest of the company goes to Nice for their christmas party, so yesterday me and Neil took the rental car (a rather pacy 307) and went for a bit of a drive, first down to some salt pans which were a bit of a disappointment, though we did see flamingos! Then we headed back in land and I drove along some crazy roads that had sheer drops over the side but no form of safety barrier, and were barely big enough for two cars, which was pretty scary. We went to a little town called Collobrieres which was a very typical French village, but unfortunately we were a couple of days too early for the Chestnut festival (how could we have missed it!) so we bought a kilo of candied chestnuts and got on our way again. Then there was more horrible roads while we drove to a monastery from the 12th century, unfortunately we were a bit late to go around the whole thing (even though we were there 30 mins before it closed) so we didn’t really get a decent look at the place. Later that night we had a bit of a drive around St Tropez, which was totally dead, so we just got takeaway and went back to the house.
It was awesome actually getting a lie-in today, although I had got quite accustomed to the lads bringing in fresh croissant and danish’s every day.
I’ll try and get a couple of pictures up whilst the weather is still good.
Must dash, I’ve got a citadel and a castle to invade!

Tomorrow I’m going to pick up a hire car (Golf TDI or similar), so that I can help with getting people to Nice for the airports and the Christmas party this weekend. I know that sounds weird, but it was decided to have the christmas party really early so that all the wives could be brought out and they could have something really special (dinner and a show at a casino on the seafront). Me and Neil aren’t going, since I’m not really an employee, and it isn’t Neil’s scene, so we get the weekend off, and now we have a car that I’d be willing to drive for more than 30 minutes. The Twingo is a quintessentially French car to drive, but the lack of power steering, power, traction, good suspension, comfort, decent radio, air con and having a partially leaking roof do make it a bit of a hag to drive.
We’re thinking of mission-ing it down to the bridge designed by Norman Foster, just because, and possibly go on the full route around the Grand Canyon of Verdun, since it is pretty much one of the most amazing places I’ve ever seen, and the very twisty 80 miles round trip is a lot more attractive now that I won’t be doing it in the Twingo.
