C squared

As part of BGBCs ongoing fascination with celebrities, I feel duly obliged to tell you that Chris Evans and Chris Moyles were spotted drinking at the Angel Inn in Bowness last night, as texted to me by our Claire, who I happened to see in Kendal yesterday (the first time that I’ve actually seen her since she became a poster here, excluding that time she totally blanked me in Bowness, when I happened to be heading towards the Angel).

So, celebs, in Bowness.

Skin, skin, skin

How come men can be described as both ’shirtless’ and ‘topless’ in celeb magazines and on blogs, whereas women are pretty much only described as ‘topless’ when they’re caught getting niptacular?

A big green smile

So I waschowing down on a hulking great piece of watermelon just before, and I realised:

There is simply no way to look sexy whilst eating a melon with your hands.

Geez, I’m actually having to WORK for MONEY!

Posted by Bone at August 29th, 2006

I’ve had sponsors running ads on HYA for many months now, some of them are affiliate links (if someone buys something through the ad I get a cut) and some of them are just regular ads like you’d see in any media publication.

The problem is that I haven’t actually earnt anything back from these ads (except for the occasional free tee), because if someone asks for my ad rates I tell them that the ad software isn’t working properly at the moment so I’ll just let them advertise for free. They all love this of course, and it gives my blog a good reputation, but it does still mean that I’m not getting back what I paid for on hosting (even though me and Tigg got a great deal thanks to the guy that runs Teees, and I am properly unemployed now, so I figured it was about time I got my hands dirty and started trying to fix the software.

*WARNING: IT GETS SLIGHTLY NERDY*

And my God, is this stuff tough! Have you ever used Shell access? It looks like MS-DOS, and that scares me. I spent a few hours working on it last night, then another few hours today, and I *think* that I might have saved something, which might cause something to work, but I think it might take a few hours for it to propagate. Basically I wrote a crontab, but I also have to change some lines on an INI file, and even then it probably won’t work, since I’m in way over my head and don’t really understand any of the stuff I’m doing, since I’m just working from anecdotes in forum threads rather than any kind of documentation.

Still, it should be worth it if I can start getting in a few quid to cover hosting (and eventually an iPod or something unnecessary like that).

“What about today was to do with religion?”

Posted by Bone at August 28th, 2006

That was the question that Paz posed to Richard and I when we were at the reception after the wedding…

“well, we went to a Roman Catholic church, there was Roman Catholic service, there were prayers and hymns, and IT WAS A WEDDING!”

He’ll be telling us he’s an uncle next… (sorry, private joke)

Anywho, it was a great day, and it was great to get most of the Kent House gang back together for what is probably the last time (since none of them came to Bonefest, cough cough) in a long time, especially with Matt and Hannah going to Japan for the year in less than a month.

And of course, many congrats to the happy couple.

Oh, and the cake was fantastic.

Hands Down, That Was The Best Day…

Posted by Claire at August 27th, 2006

Well folks I am back from Leeds Festival.  Bruised, shattered and STILL hungover, but totally worth all the money I spent on Cider, the 9 hours I worked today and the kick in the head I got from a passing Crowdsurfer.  We got there and stuck to the Main Stage, as this is where all the action was.  Gogol Bordello?  Not for me…

So, in order of performance, we saw:  Dashboard Confessional (worth all their not so amazing songs just to hear Hands Down), Panic! At The Disco (hmmm, I wasn’t too sure, but the Cellist was awesome), The Subways (one of the best acts I saw), Fall Out Boy (War!), Belle and Sebastian (I missed it, I fell asleep/passed out), The Yeah Yeah Yeahs (Karen O IS a legend) and then finally…

Colin Murray introduced Chris Moyles, who introduced Peter Kay who introduced…

KAISER CHIEFS!  Amazing set, I’ve seen them on TV and not witnessed anything super brilliant, but they are so good live.  No wonder their tours sell out so quickly.  Then of course we got to see Franz Ferdinand, the headliners.  I would of course be far more excited, however, I’ve already seen them before.  Though they never fail to impress me with their energy on stage.  One of the best live bands of the day in my opinion.  Not that NME has any influence on me, oh no…

Leeds Festival 2006.  It rocked.

It almost brought a tear to my eye

Posted by Bone at August 24th, 2006

I’ve been watching MTV2’s “It’s so EMO-tional” show for the past half hour and I’ve seen all of the bands live, and there I was thinking I did go to see that much emo.

Oh, well, of course Garry

I always complain that I never see anyone famous, especially when everyone goes on about how the stars are all such big fans of the Lake District. Well, yesterday I think I saw Mark Lawrenson of Liverpool FC and BBC punditry fame. He was in Ambleside, pushing a pushchair.

Bonefest: the stats

Posted by Bone at August 22nd, 2006

well, I took the bins of cans and bottles to be recycled, and I counted them up as I went along.

71 cans

32 bottles (including 4 litres of vodka)

I can’t really remember how many people were there, but that does seem like quite a lot of drink for the amount of people there.
