Vive La Bone

Posted by Bone at June 29th, 2006

Alright, I’m off to the South of France for 10 days and don’t expect to be going near the internet (yeah, I know, me without the internet). So you’re going to have to put up with the sporadic posts that come from the rest of the guys whilst I’m enjoying a private swimming pool and sipping my martini’s on the yacht.

The BBC, pillars of integrity

Posted by Bone at June 28th, 2006

I was just checking the news on the BBC site today, which is odd because I was sat near the TV, and I looked at the live update of the Federer vs Henman, which is even weirder because I knew that the match would be live on BBC1, and the TV was mere feet away. It’s a good thing that I did look at it because I got the most awesome text commentary that had McEnroe & Castle’s efforts beat easily. Sample.

On Henman Hill, excited teenagers gather round the BBC’s Rishi Persaud to tell him how Federer can still be beaten. Few pearls of wisdom are given - the hot sun and underage drinking have combined to leave them a touch short of genuine insight.

Amazing!

Check it out.

And today I shot… a lemon!

Posted by Bone at June 27th, 2006

Today I took it one step further and set up the tripod to ensure that the focus was correct. It looks waaayyyy more impressive in slow motion, but I can’t be bothered doing that, and I think it looks pretty funny this way. Enjoy me shooting an old-but-surprisingly-juicy lemon.

Exploding Eggs!

Posted by Bone at June 26th, 2006

So Neil was making dinner and said “these eggs are about 3 weeks out of date, wanna chuck’em into the field?” But being a genius (whatever uni says) I took it to the next level, and decided that shooting them with air rifles would be a much better idea. When I took a video of it the focus was actually on the field behind the egg, but you can still see the effect pretty well.

Man, I really hope the foxes come round later tonight and eat up the mess for me so that I don’t have to cleran it up.

NME: Lost in their own bubble

Posted by Bone at June 25th, 2006

A few months ago I bought a copy of Rock Sound that had an interview with Sigur Ros in it. It was a pretty decent interview, but did have the stand-out quote that Rock Sound believed that the Ros were the kind of band that musos and journalists would probably get a bit over-excited and associate their sound with some kind of a “sonic cathedral”. It became a bit of a joke between me and Richard, and seemed to get mentioned whenever Sigur Ros was being boomed out of either of our rooms.

Imagine my surprise (and more than a bit of glee) when searching through my web stats that I found a google search that mentioned the “sonic cathedral” and there was a link to a page from the NME website. I’m going to quote part of the ridiculous review of Sigur Ros’ performance at the Shepherds Bush Empire in London.

…hushed to a near-silence anyway by the soothing purple lights and the distant hum of whale music that serves as introduction, takes a deep breath and prepares to be plunged into the iciest of Icelandic waters….

…the band begin to build what can only be described as a glacier-coated sonic cathedral around it. Hours pass. After an eternity a solemn looking character steps up to the microphone, looking as if he’s just arrived from a Quaker prayer meeting….

…the band eke out another lost nursery rhyme they found on the moon and thought they’d better share with us…

I’d like to think that they’re kidding, but I highly doubt it. I cannot believe that Richard buys “indie Heat” every week. Linky link link link.

I really need to freshen up my CD changer

Posted by Bone at June 24th, 2006

Long week for the Bone, I haven’t had a day of doing nothing all week (what kind of unemployment is this?), and I’ve managed to do about 850 miles in five days! If you will allow me to Gorman-ise for a minute, my average speed for this week has been just over seven miles per hour, for five whole days!

Let me break it down.

400 miles Traveliing to and from Leicester on Monday and Tuesday to pick up the rest of my things and say a non-teary goodbye to Matt and Tom (”hey andy, when I move into my new place you’re invited to the party”, “nah, can’t be bothered”).

100 miles going to Carlisle and back for holiday shopping on Wednesday, and getting my degree class via text whilst in a traffic cue.

Around 100 miles going to Kendal and Lancaster on Thursday to pick up a wall-safe and air-conditioning unit, I felt just like a UPS man (except without the shorts).

About 250 miles today because I drove to Newcastle to see my Grandparents, one of which was in hospital (but happily we drove him home from the hospital because he was getting better, though the nurse did give him a bag of pills big enough to keep a raver ‘buzzing’ till Chrimbo).

Oh, and I even started reading a book, Yes Man by Danny Wallace (claim-to-fame-that-I’ve-probably-mentioned-before, my brother used to be his neighbour), so I’m going to try and be more Danny-like and say yes to more social opportunities since I’m always telling Rob that I can’t be bothered to go to the pub, when I always enjoy it when I do.

Oh, and the new Billy Talent CD is out in a few days, time for me to get pre-ordering (same goes for the TEN CD too).

The Big Bag of cliches

Posted by Bone at June 22nd, 2006

I don’t particularly want to write this post, but since BGBC was started so that I could write about my university experiences I guess I really have to.

Yesterday I got a text from TomTom telling me my provisional degree results (I know, how 21st century and unpersonal). I got a 2:2. And I am not happy. I really thought that over the past few months I had worked hard enough to avoid yet another disappointment on results day, but alas nay.

I’ll be very interested to see what marks I got for my dissertation, since I was utterly, utterly convinced that I’d written something worthy of a quality 2:1 (which would have given me the 2:1 degree overall).

I know it isn’t a bad result, but after 3 years it does seem a bit of a let down, perhaps I set my aims too high?

I simply must…

Posted by Bone at June 18th, 2006

Stop telling people that I’m famous when I go for a night out. One of these days, someone might not believe me.

Bone’s gone home, he’s gone home

Posted by Bone at June 15th, 2006

Unlike Claire, I’ve actually gone home for an indefinite period ‘cept for picking up the rest of my stuff from Leicester next week, oh, and going on holiday the week after that, and then graduation after that. But after all that there is literally nothing left for me to do.

The journey back was weird, the car was totally packed, the suspension groaned, the rear-view mirror was rendered utterly useless, and in an attempt to utilise all possible space, I resorted to putting clothes in the mini fridge (not so mini when you’re trying to pack it into a car!). Because I got away from Leicester later than I wanted I missed the first half of the England game, which was actually helpful in a way. Observe.

16:55, traffic, traffic, traffic

17:00 Kickoff in Germany, empty roads, smooth driving, creative interpretations of the speed limit (must. see. second. half.)

I’ve been slacking a bit lately in terms of BGBC, me and Richard went to Skegness on Monday and I still haven’t given it a write-up despite us both taking some great pics and me getting a wicked sunburn (I could practiaclyy hear myself sizzling).
