A PSA for Tiggy

Posted by Bone at March 30th, 2006

He coulda been a contender

Robert Stephen Victor Tigg (on the right) was born 20 years, 364 days ago today, and to celebrate we’re going out on Saturday night and will force him to drink to the point where he isn’t enjoying himself, because that’s what good friends do.

It will also be my first night back in Cumbria as the uni term finishes tomorrow (I had my last ever history lecture today, scary) and I go back to Langdale to revise and write my oft-discussed dissertation. I’m not saying that my return to Cumbria is more important than Tigg’s birthday, but I am famous on the internet (even if some of those good links call me the ‘mayor of munchkinland’ *note* not actually me, I don’t like acting, it gets in the way of the truth (Colbert reference)).

So to anyone and everyone that reads this, if you’re in the Bowness area get yourself out on Saturday night and buy a drink for one of the greatest people you could ever meet. And if you’re not in the area, you could probably mail him a can of cider or something, Tiggy does love his cider!

Also, farewell to Bones Photo Hole, MSN is removing support to the ‘popular’ group that I set up about 5 years ago in the early days of picture sharing so that me and my school-chums could keep up to date with each others goings on, it was particularly active during our first years at university, when we would post photos to prove that we were just as popular at uni as in school. MSN never upped the 3MB personal storage limit since the group opened, limiting the amount that people could post. The service has been migrated to a lesser provider called “worldgroups” that I know little about, and their site isn’t very compatible with FireFox. MSN calls the migration “good news” and exciting…

Who likes random list posts?

Posted by Bone at March 28th, 2006

(okay, I starting writing this post fairly early on, so this post has taken a few hours to write, but only because I don’t want to keep editing it as I think up new things)

I’ve finished writing and am now trimming the fat of my essay. It isn’t bloated, its like a rower, a big person, but there’s not much that you can get rid of.

I’ve noticed some interesting things as I search for sentences to shorten:

1. “could have been” becomes “was”

2. “protect and maintain the security of” = “defend”

3. By writing an essay way before the deadline and having to read it through about ten or twelve times, I keep making it better (who knew?)

4. My excessively rambling style of writing does not lend itself well to cutting down an essay (I love words too much!)

5. Caramelising sugar (at midnight) and cooking bananas in the syrup, then drowning it all in custard makes perfect sense when you’re desperate for a break.

6. The Absinthe Glow describe their music as “the type of record that you would put on at 2:30AM , when you are winding down with one last cocktail , and you’re too tired to talk, but not ready to surrender.” And they’re right, except I’m not winding down, and I don’t have a Martini or a Milkori (C+ my ass!).

7. I didn’t know that superpower was one word and not two, but I’m really glad it is (yeah, thats how desperate I am).

8. I’m starting to worry that I’ll read it tomorrow and realise that I have 2,500 words of bullet points.

9. I just noticed that I spelt deemed with 3 E’s and it made me laugh, clearly I am too tired for this.

10. That’s it, I’m out, done, finito.

Damn week-of-work!

Posted by Bone at March 27th, 2006

I’ve worked too hard now and have written 500 words too many!

And the boiler isn’t going to be fixed until Wednesday, yeeearrrfgh.

Still awake, still writing

Posted by Bone at March 27th, 2006

I’ve just noticed that I’ve got three books from the library that all only have “British Foreign Policy” written on the spine. Variety truly is the spice of life.

Clocks and caffeine

Posted by Bone at March 27th, 2006

Don’t you hate this whole putting the clocks forward thing, yeah it means its not dark early, but it really confuses me, like the clock says its 1:20 but really its 00:20, and yet I feel 1:20 tired. Damn you daylight savings time!

Also, I thought I’d pull a late one working on an essay tonight (even though its got a Friday deadline), so I got myself good and full of Red Bull (ok, Red Rooster, the thrifty students imitation, it tastes the same, it is the same) and now I’ve reached my goal for the evening before the damn caffeine has even kicked in!

Which obviously explains why I’m writing a post about not much in particular and have been taking random photos (combination of continuous shot on sport mode whilst moving the camera).

Oh yeah, I’m a good son so my mum got her mothers day card, and a phone call, I might just shame my brother by getting her some flowers when I go home at the end of the week.

Boiler still broken, showers still cold, house still cold, dishes piling up due to lack of hot water to wash up with, hair getting too long.

This dude, Stephen Covell, on Purevolume seems pretty good, and there’s a buttload of tracks to listen to aswell.

Lastly (I promise), I wanna plug Hide Your Arms yet again, as this weeks Monday feature is Jason from Preshrunk and I’m pretty sure he’s got the most popular tee blog on the web, so it isn’t a coup because its not like he’s famous or anything, but he is the reason that my wardrobe looks like a mini-Threadless warehouse.

My scalp went numb!

Posted by Bone at March 25th, 2006

The boilers broken, in scenes reminiscent of last years boiler debacle.

So we can’t have warm showers or heating in the house. The rest of the guys all have gym memberships so they can pop off to the gym, but not the Andyman, I’ve gotta stick it out with what comes from the pipes, and even though it’s got a bit warmer over the past couple of days it is still damn, damn, damn cold.

Its not actually that bad, certainly did wake me up, but roll on Tuesday when the plumber gets the water regulator and can fix it up again.

Instead of working on my various essays today I’m going to watch Leicester vs Reading at the Walkers, apparently if reading win then they’re in the Premiership, so it should be a pretty decent match, unless Reading want to clinch promotion at their home ground. Either way it’d be nice to see some goals (Leicester may be my adoptive team, but I’m still paying to see some goals dammit).

Also, if you show your NUS at the ticket office you get a severely reduced price £10 instead of £28, bargain.

What the hell!

Posted by Bone at March 24th, 2006

Did Steph just kick Max out of his own house?

Just because he was going to have her sectioned so that she would get chemotherapy.

Anyway, how is it that Steph can kick her husband out of the house that she doesn’t even own. I’m pretty sure that the same thing happened when The Kennedys get divorced, Susan kept the big house and Karl got shipped off to a bachelor pad where he could write his songs. Australia, you’ve taken equality too far!

(you do realise I’m talking about Neighbours, right?)

Another what the hell, how have Adrian and Stuart managed to almost finish their dissertations more than 45 days before the deadline. And I found that out the day I missed a dissertation meeting cos I didn’t read an e-mail. Maybe I’m not as well organised as I’ve thought.

Also, Waple, I know you’ve got bgbc as your homepage, and I love it!

I’m afraid of the outside!!!

I don’t know what it is, but I haven’t managed to stay out until closing time at a club in Leicester for weeks. It’s crazy, I keep feeling ill or getting a migraine. I’m not that old am I? Have I really passed my peak of drinking ability, am I becoming middle-aged at the tender age of 21. Actually, when we went to see V for Vendetta on Saturday night (it was aight) I did say to the guys afterwards “was it just me or was it a bit loud?” Turns out is was just me.

Never gonna get a job…

Posted by Bone at March 21st, 2006

Like christmas without novelty paper

I feel like I’m writing a bit much at the moment, but I’ve been working hard on my uni stuff, and I don’t really have much to do whilst I listen to series 2 of the Ricky Gervais Podcast (which is an hour long! - nope, stupid windows media player).

I got a call from my parents today, they’ve just got back from the south of France, where I may well be doing a short stint of work in October if I haven’t decided what to do with the rest of my life by then (i.e. odd-jobbing for my parents company whilst they do a job down there).

They also told me that a package had arrived for me, which was odd because the only thing I’ve ordered recently was a t-shirt from Threadless, and I ordered that after the phone call (and it only cost me £1, jackpot!). It turns out that being a clothes blogger actually has it’s benefits, I’m the happy recipient of a t-shirt from Beandip Clothing, promotional samples being sent to me for review! Me! My brother questions whether it will fit me, and if I can pull off yellow, which makes me question why he was opening boxes sent to me…

Anyway, Beandip are gonna have to wait 2 weeks before I can cast my eye over their fine product (which I can’t on their site, oooh) because Mum refuses to post me a t-shirt, as I already own too many. During this phone conversation I did mutter some rather immortal words “I’m famous on the internet”, when I was justifying just why it was that people were sending me clothes.

I want more people to look like me

Posted by Bone at March 20th, 2006

I’m just going to do a straight rip from HYA since I can’t be bothered to write out another post.

I'm damn handsome

Threadless is running another of it’s popular $10 sales, it finishes at 10am CST on Wednesday, so you’d better be quicker than usual. Oh yeah, they’ve reprinted Flowers in the Attic (which is basically them printing money, as one person said in the Threadless blog/forum), but it is a bit pink, not that there’s anything wrong with that.

Oh an if you’re wondering why I’m posting about tees instead of hoodies, I’m a cheap guy and I want street team points, you didn’t think I was doing all this blogging for the warm feeling inside, did you?

So buy buy buy people! Postage to the UK isn’t too bad and the tees are excellent in terms of looks and design.
