History students don’t often get to hand work in, so we have to celebrate it everytime.

Richard handed in our ‘Decline of a World Power: British Foreign and Defence policy 1892-1968′ essays this morning, so the history society decided that we must celebrate by having a bar crawl that starts at 7 (though Richard started drinking 10 minutes ago…) and culminates at Leicester best faux-paradise island club, Zanzibar. It’s the politics society versus the history society, so things could get messy (in drinking terms, we’re all lovely people).

Funny thing is, many of the bars have requested that we take both NUS (national union of students) cards and our driving license or passport. On a university bar crawl. When you go to university in the UK when you’re 18.

Me and Rory watched Requiem for a Dream on Friday night, it was the first film that actually made me feel physically sick, it was just that powerful. People that have seen it will probably know which bit I’m talking about. As one person on IMDB said, “it’s so good I’ll never watch it again.”

It’s been a long time coming…

Posted by Claire at February 26th, 2006

Hello there! Yes, a day later than promised, but hey, what’s more fun to do on a Saturday night than turn down the House of Wheels for an enjoyable evening sat in front of a computer, reloading 2 years of your life. My ‘Craptop’ (as so brilliantly nicknamed by my father) has returned from PC World in the same condition it was in 2 years ago when I bought it. Blank. I think that’s enough on that subject…

So, I can’t believe I’ve been home 2 weeks already! I’ve been up to so much & it’s all been brilliant, I don’t miss those Germans or the -20 Temperatures one bit!

On Thursday 16th Febrauary I went to hang out with the heavies, taking my gig-virgin friend Ann to go & see Kanye West at the MEN Arena, which was just amazing, despite a massive amount of cock ups, ranging from problems with the video, Kanye getting distracted, the orchestra coming in too early & to conclude, Kanye leaving the audience & his orchestra confused as he just ran off stage, not completing the encore. Can’t complain though, as with every other gig I’ve been to, I didn’t stop smiling once. And he’s “fit as” (Joan, you’ve GOT to comment now) too!

Then a few days later, my friend Jen & I headed down to Cambridge University for my best & oldest friend, Sarah Priestley’s 21st Birthday Party. And a riot was had. Had a lovely day on Saturday, punting on the Cam, then a fantastic party in the evening. I had thought & thought for ages as to what to buy her, she’s not the kind of girl who would appreciate a token piece of jewellery or a trinket of some kind, so I researched & ended up buying her 2 tickets to see Feeder in Birmingham in March. However, I didn’t research THAT well, as the opening of the envelope moment didn’t go exactly as I had imagined & to cut a very long & full of tears story short, Sarah can’t go to the gig as she’s annoyingly in Birmingham that weekend, but for her friend Becky’s 21st Party. Now, before you get too excited at the prospect of cheap tickets Tyse, I have sold them to Ann! Thank god I took her to Kanye & infected her with the gig addiction. Though, considering her wages got balls up this week & she only got paid 90p for 8 hours work, I don’t think I’ll be seeing the money for a couple of weeks.

So apart from that, I’ve been busy working & catching up with all my friends again. Some heavy drinking has also been done! Tempers in the Shore household lasted about a week & we have now resorted to having at least 5 arguments per day. It’s all great fun being home! That’s it for another week. I have just had ‘raised voices’ with my mother as she informed me I have been on the Internet for an HOUR & A HALF!

I shall leave you with 3 important messages:

1. Will the IDIOTS who knock on my sister’s bedroom window every Friday night at crazy hours of the morning & really frightening her, please stop it, or you will have me, Katie & eventually the Police to answer to.

2. The girl on Deal or No Deal had the £250,000 IN HER BOX. David Seamen was cheated out of a place in Dancing on Ice’s, or whatever it’s called, Final, HE DIDN’T DROP HER!

3. Going to York next week!! Woooo!!

Tough times

I know that a family were abducted and threatened at gun point, but you have to hand it to a group of people that had the stones to go an steal £25-40 million pounds, especially if they did it wearing false beards.

I’m not here as a public servant, but I don’t mind doing my bit for the community. Look at that photo. Think about it. I have a lead for the police (get my hands on some of that £2 million reward money).

ARREST JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE.

It’s always the mega-rich music stars that make the most audacious heists.

Edit: bit of a big picture isn’t it?

I know this has been online for about a decade in ‘internet years’ (which are comparable in length to dog years), but I just had to post it, absolutely increbibly, astounding. Honestly, this guy stole my moves!

Manly Manly Man

Last night, as I was quietly working away on my essay Rory shouts up at me “the dryer won’t spin”. Which kind of means, Andy, the dyer’s broken, fix it. So i duly did. We took apart the dryer (which my parents got from a job they did just after I was born, God knows how long the other people had had it), and it was as I had suspected, the belt had come off the drum.

Easy, right? You just push it back onto the spindle…

Nope, it requires supreme tightness, which means moving the whole motor just to get it back on.

Queue an hour of grunting, shouting, pushing it harder and sighing. There’s many, many obvious jokes that could be made now, but I think we can all avoid lowering oursevles to that level.

We finally did manage to get it on, and all was well again, and the dryer’s stopped making the annoying noise it used to make. I. Am. A. DIY. Genius.

But hungover! Long, WELL overdue post tomorrow I promise, I have a parental figure breathing down my neck this very second, but I’m loving being back home & having a great time!

Bone: You pushed down Paris-on-a-pedestal for a faux-post? Damn you woman! Nice to see you’re alive though.

Chick: Are you Jon Lovitz?
Jon Lovitz: Jealous?

I’m not the type of person to use the term ‘lol’ but this bit in Over in NY genuinely did make me laugh out loud, twice, and I just had another little chortle there thinking about it again.

He was the guy that played Jay Sherman in the awesome cartoon “the critic” that I watched on Paramount about a decade ago, Brits will recognise his voice from when he played Jay Sherman on the Simpsons. He’s also been in a butt-load of films.

The blog feels a little dirtier simply for putting Miss Hilton in a post, but I do love this little video. 48 seconds of a woman spinning around, with Pete Burns singing in the background. Why? Does it matter? No!

I think it’s just a perfect example of when photographers/film makers put art/fashion/celebrity together in a bowl and just let it boil for a few hours.

Artist=”okay, Paris, I have this post-modern vision of women as objects, being paraded like meat.”
Paris=”that’s hot.”

^That’s me phonetically speaking in a Fronch (intentional, read it again) accent. Why? Because me and Rory watched Luc Besson’s Nikita last night. It was really good, we were debating whether to go to the Odeon and make use of Orange’s 241 deal, but since I’d got Nikita through in the post we read the summary on IMDB, and trusted their arbitrary numerical scale of goodness “dude, that film was so 7.8!”. Our decision was that if Nikita was on at the cinema then we would have probably gone to see that above any other.

The ending was a bit of a disappointment though, there wasn’t really a feeling of closure (that’s not really a spoiler, right?), but it did’nt stop me enjoying it all the way through.

Today: spent ages getting ahead on HYA, I’ve got enough links to do a couple of months now, crazy…

Hummuna!

Perez Hilton (who I’ve come to appreciate more and more since getting my RSS feeds sorted) has posed a rather sexy question. Are Penelope Cruz and Salma Hayek coming out, TOGETHER!?!?

It is, of course, more than likely, absolute rubbish, but nevertheless, my jaw may have hung loose for a second, and some saliva may or may not have left my mouth due to dumb-struckedness.
