Tara Reid is drunk… again.

Originally uploaded by Georgia Wisdom.

Random celeb posting!!! Haven’t done one of these for ages. I was just drifting around flickr (as you do) and what do I find? Why Tommy Lee and Tara Reid sat on a couch, with a woman I don’t recognise. And apparently Tara Reid is drunk… again, apparently.

Why don’t I have a glam life like ‘Georgia Wisdom’? probably because I live in Leicester rather than LA.

Get Lost in Birmingham

life form

Now, it’s not that I have a bad sense of direction, it’s actually pretty good, if I’ve been to a city before I generally have an alright recollection of the road network.

It wasn’t quite the case on Monday when the action got underway for the great Birmingham adventure.

We got into the city centre fine, but parking was a nightmare, I got to exaclty where I wanted to be, right outside the Carling Academy of Birmingham, but found my intended car park locked but a rather heavy looking gate (the ram-raid clearly was an option). Queue 20 minutes of driving around overlapping one-way systems, pedestrianised zone, and bus lanes. Eventually we managed to find a spot near the venue.

More tales of compass incompetence after the jump.

I’m Brimming(ham) with excitement

sigur ros

Big, big day tomorrow. Richard and I are going to go and see the curiously beautiful sounds of Iceland’s finest, Sigur Ros at the Carling Academy in Birmingham.

I don’t really know what to expect from this ‘rock/pop’ outfit, I’ve never gone to see music anything like it, but hey, you’ve got to try new things at university right?

Straight after that, whilst still in Birmingham, we’re going to join up with the History Society bar crawl at Bar Risa (the crawl’s final destination, but our first). Hopefully we’ll be joined by Clare and Nichola (who are both at Birmingham uni, but I know from school) and all will have a good drunken time!

…. except for me, I’m driving….

Oh, and we have special bar crawl t-shirts, they’re well professional, I’d almost say they were on a par with that of the bigguybigcity quality, almost.

*To the person that ordered a book called “Why girls can’t throw” from Amazon through me, thank you, whoever you are (my first random affiliate purchase, yay!)*

The Cider Scienticians

Cider Bottles

Things that aren’t clever: getting a migraine, taking pain numbing migraine tablets, then going on to test 7 different types of cider.

All in the name of science!

As Richard alluded to in a previous post, we are considering making a podcast, and our only idea for it was to do a studenty thing and test various high strength (and low priced) ciders and give our opinions on them. So we did, but it turns out that drinking and recording a podcast is a dangerous thing. The upshot is that it’ll take me a fair while to edit, and we’ll probably think up a couple of other things so that we can split it over a couple, 20 minutes of cider ramblings is too much even for us. And we LOVE the sounds of our own voices…

It’s Dare!

Posted by Claire at November 12th, 2005

Ok, sorry for hogging the show, but I have to tell you about something has made me laugh for days. Shaun Ryder f**king up a live performance of the Gorillaz ‘Dare’ last week in Manchester.

If you know the song, you know it begins:

“It’s coming up (x6, can’t be arsed to type it out 6 times… yes, I’ve counted)…” then Shaun Ryder shouts “IT’S DARE!”

The defining moment is him missing his cue, ends up singing this one line about 8 times then yelling “IT’S DARE!” at completely the wrong moment. You can hear this gem here (Radio 1 Gorillaz mini-site)

Ben?

Posted by Claire at November 11th, 2005

Dear god, I’ve just had a thought, what has happened to Ben? I miss his regulary commenting. Even if it was French abuse.
So a plea: Ben, if you are reading this, please get in touch. I’m feeling sad and in need of some comments… I’ll even stand for some pigeon licking comments (check out the history). Those were the days of childish innocence before everything got so messed up. I blame alcohol. *I REALLY want to say something now, but I can’t*

I’m waffling now. I only have 3 or so days to decide whether to order a new t-shirt. It’s gonna happen. What do you say iTunes? ‘Whatever’s Left’ by Snow Patrol. I didn’t realise they were selling that well! I encouraged my australian friend Joan to visit the store when she wanted to buy a t-shirt from the internet, but she said she didn’t know you guys… I told her, what is there to know?!

Going to Subway tomorrow for a change. The novelty will wear off. Tomorrow probably. Or when I run out of money cos I’ve spent it all on Subs. Then Monday, big compensation adventure. These flamin’ tickets. Stupid German Postal System.

I’m in such a good mood!

Catch-up

Posted by Richard at November 11th, 2005

Haven’t posted for far too long: really should be a bit more conscientious about it.. As Andy posted earlier, we went out for my birthday last Friday. Surprisingly he didn’t mentioned the cape he made for me, which made my attempts at sitting down and dancing all the more hilarious (not at the same time you understand). I did manage to drink almost all of my dirty pint, although my initial attempt to hide some of it on the floor failed, as Andy revealed my plan just as we were leaving the bar, and made me drink it in front of everyone. Which wasn’t very nice.

In other news, Carenza Lewis (an archaeologist who has appeared quite a few times on Time Team) came to do a talk for the History Society at university, and Andy and I are thinking of creating a podcast. Quite what we’re going to say isn’t settled yet, but in a test run yesterday I managed to give out all of Andy’s credit details. Lucky for him that it wasn’t being broadcast!

So annoyed, so very, very annoyed

Posted by Claire at November 11th, 2005

It’s The Arctic Monkeys tomorrow! Yay! No Tickets! Not so yay! Basically, Ticketbox say they sent them on 25th October, and the post office swear I have signed them. But I’ve never seen them. I’m really annoyed dude. Neither the ticket company or the post office will accept responsibility. So we ain’t seeing the ‘Monkeys & we ain’t gonna get our money back either.

I hate Germany. Yesterday I threw my (other) cup at the wall. For completely a unrelated reason. I hate liars.

*It’s not as if I need the extra weight* (Spitting Games - Snow Patrol) God damn you iTunes game!

so much music

Originally uploaded by stationary.

So, after staying away from the ‘latest’ trend of iTunes I have finally succumbed and downloaded version 6.

It’s kinda related to my (well, Punktastic’s) discovery of the Mark Hoppus Podcast. I thought to myself “I wonder what other podcasts are available to download for free on iTunes”. As you can tell I save the A-class material for the blog, why waste clever writing on my own brain.

Turns out, not all that much that I’m intetested in. So far. But there’s hundreds so I’m sure I’ll be able to find something I like in good time.

It’s also nice to know that I could listen to music for 11.5 days straight, it’d be just like the security system in the first Home Alone movie, except the burglers would have to believe that I often had rockstars around to my house, and that I never slept….

Also, free single of the week is kinda nice, and I’m willing to hand over my credit card details to Apple since I never intend to buy an MP3 (I’m actually sentimental over CD’s, welcome to 2005).

It does seem to be a bit of a memory hog, but then again, my computer does running a gajillion (honest) programmes at the same time so anything seems slow.

Conclusion, iTunes=acceptable.

Oh and guys, please check out our Flickr page and add us to your contacts if you too are a member!

Conversation with iTunes

Posted by Claire at November 10th, 2005

Basically, I’m a little drunk right now, so I’m really sorry if this doesn’t make much sense! I’ve just been to Susie Wongs (once you wong you just can’t stop!), not as bad as I was last week as I knew I had to look after myself this week (Pawel has an exam in the morning - good luck dude!)!

I’ve had a BAD few days. Can’t talk about it here of course. And if I did, Bone promised me he’d edit it anyway! But something that cheered me right up today was a sad little game I heard about! What you do, is take 20 questions (check out my space for example questions), put iTunes (or your chosen Media Player) on random & basically you for each question take a new song as the answer. Ie, a very UN-funny result of my question: 17. How close are my friends? was ‘Letterbomb’ by Green Day, which begins “Nobody likes you, everyone left you, they’re all out without you, having fun.” Great stuff, I’m feeling the love right now! But at the same time, to the question: Will I have a happy life? iTunes answered with ‘Bad Day’ by Daniel Powter, suggesting that maybe I’m just going through a bad-patch (the day) & things have to get better! I hope, I really do. Big sigh.

And positively, I just asked iTunes if the guy I fancy liked me and it answered ‘Endlessly’ by Muse. It’s a good sign I feel. But also shocking that I’m basing my life around such randomness. Dude, I mean, iTunes TOLD me to go to Wongs: ‘Take, Take, Take’ by the White Stripes.

PLEASE try it or I’ll have stayed up for another half hour writing this for no bloody reason when I have a lecture tomorrow!

Off to Prague in a few weeks! I cannot wait. I feel now is the time for a rant. Stupid Bloody German Postal System! It’s looking less positive that we will make the Arctic Monkeys concert as the daft fucking (oops, I swore) postman ‘forgot’ to leave me a note saying he tried to deliver the tickets and by now they have been returned to Munich. Bastards.
