JANUARY 1915: “The company was withdrawn to the reserve line - fortunately as some of the shells were short and made a dickens of a mess of our own trench.”
This man is clearly a master of understatement. He doesn’t talk about his counterparts much though, Cairnie, you’re a brave man, and a fine writer, but you aren’t aiding my search.
